"Bessie Head, Ama Ata Aidoo, and Grace Ogot are leading female voices from the African continent. In their works, they destabilize dominant colonial and patriarchal discourses and present the women of Africa as agents of their own destinies. The present volume brings together for students of postcolonial studies three of their stories, 'The Collector of Treasures', 'The Girl Who Can', and 'The Green Leaves'. Each story has been prefaced with a critical introduction that acquaints the readers with the life and works of its author and her ceaseless involvement with issues pertaining to racial and gender identities. The stories are also followed by a series of intellectually stimulating essays that critically discuss their various thematic and aesthetic aspects.
