Modern Indian Writing in English Translation a Multilingual Anthology

"Modern Indian Writing in English Translation is being introduced as a self-contained paper for the first time in the University of Delhi. The present anthology, probably the first multilingual collection in the undergraduate course, goes well beyond the ambit of the syllabus. In addition to giving easy access to the prescribed seven poems and four short stories, the present book encourages deeper engagement with the aesthetics of translation by including many of the source texts in roman or nagari scripts. Some additional works by authors in the syllabus as well as illuminating critical essays have been carefully chosen to initiate a nuanced discussion about the diversity of modern Indian literature as well as issues of caste, gender and resistance.
