"This edition introduces Renaissance poetry along with specific, extensive Introductions to Spenser and Donne. It incorporates an expansive selection from their poetry and provides relevant intellectual contexts represented by selections from the works of Manetti, Cusanus, Pico and Ebreo among others-on subjects like love, human nature and poetry. The poems are accompanied by annotations and commentaries. These are followed by selections and critical approaches ranging from the established works of Frank Kermode and A. J. Smith to contemporary approaches such as those of Natasha Distiller and Slavoj Žižek, enabling a comprehensive study of the two poets. The book provides a broad view of intellectual debates - Neoplatonist, Humanist and religious - in Renaissance Europe. The focal point of these debates is the philosophical weight that the act/concept of Love came to bear for several writers of this age. It also gives a brief sketch of the reception of Donne's poetry since the seventeenth century. ARUNI MAHAPATRA is pursuing his PhD in English at Emory University. Atlanta. HANNAH VARKEY teaches English at St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. KANAV GUPTA teaches English at Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi University."
