"This book introduces the concept of language and linguistics to beginners in this area of study. It has been designed to address the needs of a heterogeneous learner community and also to incite interest among students to pursue higher studies and research in this field. Written at a simplified level, the book aims to lucidly introduce the background, concepts, important terminologies with examples and diagrams wherever necessary to familiarize readers with no prior knowledge of the subject. The ideas and concepts of well-known scholars of the field have been simplified and broken down into units as per the requirements of the syllabus, to make the study of language and linguistics an engrossing and enjoyable experience. DR. ANINDITA DEY is a faculty in the Department of English, Debraj Roy College, Golaghat, Assam. She has done, certificate and diploma courses in the Teaching of English from the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (now EFLU), Hyderabad. She did her PhD on Detective Fiction from Tezpur University. Her areas of interest includes Popular Culture, Postcolonial Writings and Linguistics."
