A Warble of Postcolonial Voices (Poems) | Vol II

This volume collects some of the poems of Pablo Neruda, Derek Walcott, David Malouf and Mamang Dei, with a keen focus on the various issues involved in the study of postcolonial poetry. In these poems, the four poets destabilize the dominant discourses of colonialism and heterosexual patriarchy while negotiating with the complexities involved in being a postcolonial subject. The latter includes raising pertinent questions along the axes of language, race, history, and sexuality which render problematic the notion of a unitary and fixed identity of the postcolonial subject. The critical introduction prefacing the life and works of the three poets is aimed at acquainting the reader of this volume with the thematic and formal politics of their poems along such contours of identity-formation. The critically annotated poems of Neruda, Walcott, Malouf and Mamang Dai presented in this volume will, thus, especially interest the students of postcolonial studies. The poems in this book are prefaced with a critical introduction that acquaints the readers with the life and works of their respective author and his ceaseless involvement with issues pertaining to racial and gender identities. They are also followed by a series of intellectually stimulating essays that critically discuss their various thematic and aesthetic aspects in detail.
